Thing is though, Derek would rather kill someone. I mean think about it; it’s the quickest, cleanest, and most efficient solution to all of his current problems. Alpha? Kill it. Kanima? Kill it. Alpha pack? Kill that too.
Of course he’s protecting people in the gifset. This gifset is of his pack and Scott who, honestly, he probably considers pack whether Scott likes it or not. And then there’s Stiles who we can assume he’s protecting because A) he’s a human, B) if he dies, Scott will be out of reach forever, C) he’s not evil (really, that’s pretty much all he is to Derek canonically let’s be real here).
But Derek does kill. Not indiscriminately, no, but it’s always an option for him and somewhere high on his probability list. Whereas for Scott, it never even crossed his min until someone else brings it up and even then he can’t even wrap his mind around the concept.
I mean, I’m not saying Derek’s a bad person; I love him and sympathize with him too, but he’s not quite the teddy bear that fandom is trying to turn him into.
